The number that decides whether you can have a bike at all

For a lot of riders in this class the purchase price is not the obstacle — insurance is. And it varies so wildly by country, age and postcode that no general answer is worth anything.

So let's collect real figures.

Template

Code:
Country and region:
Your age:
Model and year:
Licence held and how long:

Annual insurance premium:
Insurer, if you're happy to name them:
Cover type: (third party / comprehensive)
Any security discounts applied:

Fuel consumption you're seeing:
Annual road tax or equivalent:
Cost of your last service:

Things worth mentioning

  • Whether a security device reduced your premium, and by how much. This is often the single biggest lever available to a young rider.
  • Whether declaring off-street parking made a difference.
  • Whether an advanced riding course reduced it. In some markets this is significant.
  • How the quote changed after a year of no claims.

A note on age

Insurance for younger riders is expensive everywhere, and quotes vary hugely between insurers for the same rider. Never take the first quote. Owners in this thread comparing figures in the same country is exactly how people find out they are overpaying.
