The comparison every retro buyer makes

The modern classic segment is crowded and the alternatives are well known. Anyone shopping a Trofeo has almost certainly also looked at Royal Enfield, Benelli, Fantic, Mash and the Japanese retros.

What we are not going to do

We are not going to publish a specification table assembled from press material. That exists everywhere and tells you very little about living with a bike — which, in this category especially, is what actually matters.

What does not exist anywhere is a comparison from people who have owned more than one of these.

If you have owned a Trofeo and a rival

Code:
Bikes owned and roughly how long each:
Country:

Engine character — which is more satisfying, and why:
Finish and how it aged:
Comfort over distance:
Dealer and servicing experience:
Running costs:
Resale, if you sold it:

Which would you buy again with your own money?

The dimensions that matter in this category

In a retro, outright performance is near the bottom of the list. What tends to decide long-term satisfaction is character, finish quality over time, and how it makes you feel walking up to it. Those are legitimate criteria here, and worth writing about properly.

House rule

Owners of the other brands are welcome and their posts are valuable. This is a comparison thread, not a loyalty thread — brand cheerleading in either direction gets removed.
