Retro bikes, scramblers and cruisers get modified more than any other category. Half the appeal is that they are a starting point rather than a finished object.

This is the thread for what you have done to yours.

How to post a build

Code:
Model and year:
What you were going for:

What you've changed so far:
What it cost, roughly:
What you did yourself vs had done:
What you'd do differently:
What's next:

Photographs are the point here. Before and after, work in progress, details you are pleased with. Nobody minds a long post if it has pictures.

Popular starting points

  • Seat. The single change that alters both look and comfort most
  • Bar-end mirrors and levers. Cheap, visible, easily reversible
  • Indicators. Small LED units transform the lines of a retro bike
  • Tyres. Changes the character of a scrambler more than any styling part
  • Paint and tank badges
  • Luggage — leather bags, racks, straps

Two things to keep in mind

Legality varies by country. Lighting, indicator spacing, mirrors, number plate position and exhaust noise are all regulated, and the rules differ considerably between markets. Say which country you are in when you post a modification, so nobody copies something that will fail inspection where they live.

Do not modify brakes, steering or suspension mounting based on a photograph. Style changes are one thing; anything structural or safety-related needs to be done properly and, ideally, by someone qualified.

Post the failures too. The part that did not fit, the finish that did not last, the idea that looked better in your head. Those posts save other people money.
