The order to work through
1. Fluid first. Old or moisture-contaminated brake fluid is the single most common cause of a soft lever, and replacing it is the cheapest fix available. Do this before spending anything else.
2. Pads second. Different compounds change bite and feel considerably. Report which compound and how it behaves cold — a pad that is superb when hot can be poor on the first stop of the morning.
3. Lines third, if you still want more. Braided lines reduce flex and sharpen feel.

Brakes are not the place to experiment based on a forum post. Use pads specified for your model, torque fasteners to the values in your manual, and if you are not confident bleeding brakes, have it done. A mistake here does not give you a second chance.
